Services Performed
- Diagnostic Steps; Step 1. Tried to start the vehicle. The vehicle would not start due to a dead battery. Step 2. Charged the battery and tried to start the vehicle. The vehicle started and is currently misfiring. The check engine light is intermittently flashing. Step 3. Scanned the vehicle for diagnostic trouble codes. Found powertrain control module codes P0158 (bank 2 sensor 2 oxygen sensor circuit high), P0138 (bank 1 sensor 2 circuit high), P0152 (bank 2 sensor 1 circuit high), P0132 (bank 1 sensor 1 circuit high), P1129 (closed loop fuel fueling not achieved – bank 2), P1128 (closed loop fueling not achieved – bank 1), P0300 (multiple cylinder misfires), and P0507 (idle speed performance higher than expected). Step 4. Using a scan tool checked misfire counters. Found cylinders 5, 4,6,7, and 8 have misfires. Cylinder 5 has the most. Step 5. Checked mechanical condition of the engine using a vacuum gauge. Verified there is a mechanical failure due vacuum gauge is bouncing indicating there is a failure in the valve train. Step 6. Checked compression on cylinders 4 and 5. Found compression is excessive (250 pounds per square inch and 245 pounds per square inch). Correction – Recommend removal of valve covers to check valve train.
- Removed valve covers, inspected valve train and found multiple broken valve springs causing misfires. Recommend remove cylinder heads and replace valve springs with valve seats as preventative repairs.
- Removed rocker assemblies from both cylinder heads to close valves. Performed cylinder leak test on all eight cylinders and found cylinders eight- bank 2 and seven- bank 1 wont hold pressure and leaking past intake valves, cylinder seven valve spring is visibly broken, cylinder eight spring appears ok. Removed all valve springs and seals on bank 1 including cylinder seven and all cylinders on bank 1 hold pressure and pass leak check. Removed and replaced cylinder eight intake valve spring and performed cylinder leak check and valve still leaking past intake valve. Recommend removing cylinder head and have cylinder eight intake valve with valve seats replaced for bank 2 cylinder head.
- Removed cylinder head to send for repair. Repaired cylinder head. Installed cylinder head with new gaskets. Test drove. Found that engine reaches normal operating temperature the vehicle runs rough and has set faults for the oxygen sensors. Recommend replacing 2 upstream and 2 down stream sensors. Replaced sensors. Vehicle now drives per design at operating temperature.
- Repaired cylinder head valves and valve seats.
- OXYGEN SENSOR – Remove & Replace – V8 Each
- OXYGEN SENSOR – Remove & Replace – V8 Each
